Internet Explorer 8 Readiness Toolkit

March 5, 2008

Internet Explorer 8Microsoft has launched Internet Explorer 8! To read the official Press Release click here. The IE8 looks the same like IE7 but the IE8 was build for a faster browsing and more online security.

Before you install Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1, verify that the language of the installer matches the language of the operating system.

If you try to install a version of Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 in a language that differs from that of the operating system, the Component Based Setup (CBS) store will cache the update incorrectly. This will cause a problem when you try to install a version of Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 that matches the language of the operating system. The installer will report an “update not applicable” error.

To work around this issue, follow these steps:

  1. In Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Turn Windows Feature on and off.
  2. Turn on a feature that is currently not installed. For example, turn on Solitaire.
  3. Click OK, and then wait for the feature to be configured.
  4. Click Turn Windows Feature on and off again.
  5. Turn off the feature that you enabled previously. This will reset the CBS store.
